DO PORCELAIN VENEERS MAKE SENSE FOR YOU?
Veneers are a popular cosmetic dentistry option for people wanting to improve the look of their natural teeth with a smile makeover. Whether you’re concerned about one tooth or multiple teeth, your dentist at our downtown Vancouver clinic can give you the result you’re looking for.
At Aqua Dental, we take great pride in helping our patients achieve the smile of their dreams, and our team at our North Vancouver clinic offers many treatments to do just that.
In some cases, crowns, bridges, or dental implants are the best options for improving the appearance of your teeth, however, if you are looking for a cosmetic smile makeover resulting in beautiful, natural-looking teeth, then dental veneers are a perfect choice.
Still wondering if porcelain veneers are the right treatment for you?
What Your Dentist Wants You to Know
This cosmetic procedure is the ultimate combination of modern dentistry and art, as each tooth’s beauty changes drastically with hand-crafted veneers.
If you live in Vancouver, B.C. and are considering getting veneers, here are some things your dentist wants you to consider.
- First of all, are you wanting to build up your smile or repair mistakes? If so, you may have other options such as dental implants, crowns, and bridges.
- In cosmetic dentistry, the two main veneer options are porcelain veneers and composite veneers.
- Getting veneers is a non-invasive procedure, meaning no surgery is required.
- A dental veneer treatment is recommended by dentists to fill in chipped teeth and reshape crooked or twisted teeth because this treatment can be the most cost-effective method.
- Veneers cost less than you might think, especially when compared to more invasive options.
If you are looking to build up your smile with cosmetic work, you may be a good candidate for dental veneers.
How do I Know if I’m a Good Candidate for Veneers?
Dental veneers are a good option for people with the following issues:
- Chipped or broken teeth
- Tooth sensitivity
- Gaps between their teeth
- Tooth discolouration
- Sharp or unusually shaped teeth
- Unusually sized teeth
A veneer treatment is not for everyone. Patients may not be eligible if they have gum disease, tooth decay, or if they grind their teeth.
At Aqua Dental, our dental team provides porcelain veneer treatments at our North Vancouver office and would love to transform your smile overnight. The difference between the smile a patient walks in with, compared to after a completed veneer treatment, is like night and day.
Your dentist can consult with you at every step of the way to assist you with planning. They will consider the form of your jaw, the shape of existing teeth, the colour of your teeth, along with other factors, all while taking aesthetics into account. We have a lab where a masterful ceramicist creates porcelain veneers based on your plan.
What are Veneers?
Veneers are essentially thin shells that your dentist fits over the front of your natural tooth or teeth, improving their appearance and helping give you a more uniform smile.
There are two basic types of dental veneers: composite (resin) and porcelain. Our downtown Vancouver office specializes in porcelain veneer treatment.
Why Veneers are an Excellent Choice for Cosmetic Dentistry
When you make an appointment with your dentist, they will discuss different treatment options available to you, including the possibility of receiving veneers. The benefits of porcelain veneers will be part of that discussion, however, here are four reasons they are highly recommended:
Dental Veneers are Less Invasive
People often think they need surgery in order to make a dramatic change in the appearance of their teeth. That used to be the case, but not anymore.
If you’re looking to improve your smile with some cosmetic work but you want to avoid surgery, braces, or other invasive treatments, then dental veneers may be the best option for you.
Veneers Can Correct a Variety of Tooth Concerns
Our dentists recommend veneers for a variety of issues. They can be used to fill in chipped teeth, reshape crooked or twisted teeth, or cover up discolouration.
People are often surprised to learn that veneers can even fill in gaps between teeth. Gone are the days of having to wear braces for years to correct even the smallest of spaces!
They are Fast and Affordable
One of the most beneficial aspects of choosing dental veneers is that they are a quick and relatively simple way of addressing a variety of different dental concerns.
Within a few weeks of working together with your dentist, you can achieve the results you were hoping for.
The Results? A Dramatic Difference in Appearance
Dr. Alnoor Somji and the rest of the team at Aqua Dental love nothing more than seeing the joy on our clients’ faces when they see their new smile for the first time.
People who choose our North Vancouver office for veneers are stunned by the overnight transformation. The difference between the smile a patient walks in with compared to their smile after a completed veneer treatment is like night and day.
Why Choose Porcelain Veneers over Composite Resin?
At Aqua Dental, Dr. Alnoor Somji offers custom-made porcelain veneers that last longer and provide a more natural appearance than composite veneers.
With effective oral hygiene, porcelain veneers can easily last up to 10 years, and it is not uncommon for them to last even longer.
Here are a few more benefits of porcelain veneers:
- Porcelain is sturdy, making it resistant to cracks or breakage
- They can be colour-matched to give you an even, uniform smile
- Porcelain veneers are more resistant to discoloration than resin veneers
- They are the better option for crooked teeth
What is the Process?
The oral health experts in our North Vancouver location will meet with you to discuss your specific concerns and answer any questions you may have, including how long the process will take and how much the veneers cost.
Once you have decided to go ahead with veneers, the entire process usually takes place in three steps: a patient examination, preparation, and application.
The examination stage involves:
- a thorough examination of your teeth and mouth
- an examination of your tooth structure and colour
- x-rays or impressions may be taken at this point
At this stage, your tooth enamel will be filed to reshape the tooth and prepare it for the veneer.
Next, we will make an impression of your tooth and send it to our lab where a masterful ceramicist will create custom made porcelain veneers based on your individual plan right here in our North Vancouver lab.
Your veneers will take a few weeks to be made, and in the meantime you will receive temporary veneers.
Once your custom-made porcelain veneers have come back from the lab, you will be called in for the final step.
Before permanently attaching your veneers, Dr. Alnoor Somji will make sure the fit and colour are a perfect match. Once your veneer is bonded to your tooth, it will be cleaned and polished.
Finally, Dr. Alnoor Somji will check your bite, and you’ll be on your way, ready to show off your beautiful new smile!
